NetPageTwo vs Semrush (which one actually does the work)

Semrush is one of the most-used SEO tools in B2B marketing. If you’ve spent any time in this space you’ve probably used it, or at least tried the free version. Maybe you’re paying $139.95 a month for the Pro plan right now and wondering if you’re getting your money’s worth.

Here’s the honest comparison. It’s not “we’re better than Semrush.” We’re not the same thing.

What Semrush is

Semrush is a comprehensive SEO and competitive intelligence platform. You log in. You see dashboards. You run keyword research, site audits, competitor analysis, backlink tracking, content gap analysis, and rank tracking. You pull insights. You decide what to do with them. Then you (or your team) execute on those insights.

It’s a tool. Tools require operators.

Semrush is good at what it does. The data is solid. The interface is well-built. The keyword database is one of the largest in the industry. If you have someone in-house who knows how to read SEO data and translate it into shipped work, Semrush is genuinely useful.

The problem is the second half of that sentence.

What NetPageTwo is

NetPageTwo is a productized SEO and AI search service. You don’t log in to a dashboard. You sign up for $497 a month. We do the work. Every week, things ship to your site: schema, content, technical fixes, citation work for AI engines like ChatGPT and Perplexity. You get a monthly Loom showing what shipped and what’s queued.

It’s a service. Services do the work for you.

We use Semrush-style data ourselves (along with Ahrefs, GSC, Bing Webmaster, and direct AI engine testing). We just don’t hand you a dashboard. We translate the data into shipped work.

The honest “who wins” comparison

If you have… Pick
An in-house SEO specialist or marketing team with SEO chops Semrush. Give them the tool, let them execute.
No in-house SEO capability and no budget to hire one NetPageTwo. Subscribe, we run it.
Some in-house capability but bandwidth issues Both: Semrush for visibility, NetPageTwo for execution.
A pure measurement need (just want to see rankings) Semrush (or Ahrefs, or GSC for free).
A pure execution need (just want the work done) NetPageTwo.
Interest specifically in AI search citations (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini) NetPageTwo. Semrush’s AI search features are catching up but aren’t where their core data is.

The cleanest test: do you have someone whose job it is to act on SEO data inside the next 7 days? If yes, Semrush is the right buy. If no, a tool is just another subscription you’re not using.

Semrush is cheaper per month. The hidden cost is the team time to act on it. A mid-level SEO specialist costs $80K-120K loaded. An hour of their time on Semrush analysis is $40-60. Twenty hours a month of someone reading Semrush data and translating it into shipped work is $800-1,200 in labor cost on top of the tool.

NetPageTwo at $497 a month is the work itself, not the tool plus the labor.

Where the two complement each other

This is the under-discussed answer. Many of our clients use both.

They subscribe to Semrush for visibility, dashboards, and rank tracking. They use NetPageTwo for the actual schema, content, technical, and AI citation work. The Semrush dashboard tells them what’s happening. NetPageTwo makes things happen.

This combination costs $137 + $497 = $634 a month and gives a team that can both see and act. For most B2B SaaS companies in the under-50-employee range, this is the right setup.

Where Semrush is unambiguously better than us

Three areas, no defensiveness.

Semrush is better at competitor backlink intelligence. Their backlink database is bigger. If your work depends on backlink gap analysis specifically, Semrush is the right primary.

Semrush is better at large-scale keyword research. If you’re auditing 50,000 keywords across multiple sites, the tool scales in ways an agency engagement can’t.

Semrush is better at tool consolidation. They’ve bundled keyword research, site audits, competitor analysis, content tools, and rank tracking into one platform. We’re a service, not a platform. If you want one login that does many things, the platform wins.

Where we’re unambiguously better than Semrush

Also three, also no defensiveness.

We ship the work. The single biggest gap with any SEO tool is the gap between “we know what to do” and “we did it.” NetPageTwo closes that gap because we are the doing.

We focus on AI search citations specifically. Semrush has added AI search features in the last 18 months but the core of their platform is classic Google SEO. Our entire focus is the AI engine layer (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot) plus the classic layer underneath. Different focus, different output.

We’re operator-led, not platform-led. When you have a question, you email the person doing the work and get a reply in hours. With Semrush you log a support ticket. Both are valid models, but the response shape is different.

What you should do this week

If you’re currently paying for Semrush and not using it (the dashboard sits in a tab you never open), cancel it. Save the $140 a month. Use that money to evaluate either an in-house hire or a productized service like NetPageTwo.

If you’re currently paying for Semrush and actively using it, you don’t need NetPageTwo. You’re already doing what we do. Keep going.

If you have no SEO tool and no SEO execution, the question is which gap to fill first. Most B2B SaaS companies should fill the execution gap before the measurement gap. We can’t act on what we don’t measure, but we can subscribe to measurement after we have execution. Reverse it and you end up with three years of dashboards and no movement.

If you want to talk through which side of this you’re on, the fit call covers it. We won’t sell you NetPageTwo if Semrush plus your existing team is the right answer.
